Peter Landon, FCA,ATII
Peter is the Group's indirect tax specialist. A chartered accountant, he joined the London office of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co on qualifying, becoming a corporate tax consultant in 1973. He left to join Arthur Young in 1985, since when he has concentrated on indirect tax, especially on VAT, in which he has had a particular interest for over 25 years from it's introduction in the UK.
Throughout his professional career, Peter has had experience in advising a wide range of clients, both national and international, and from many different sectors - from manufacturing and energy to finance, insurance, property and a variety of other industries.
Peter has been a member of the VAT Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales for many years and, for 20 years, was a member of the Indirect Taxes Committee of UKOITC, the principal body representing the UK oil industry on taxation matters. He is also a member of the Indirect Taxes Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and was one of the founder members of the VAT Practitioners Group.
Apart from his work as a consultant, Peter is also the author of VAT and the City, a publication by CCH Editions Ltd, which is widely regarded as the major work of its kind in relation to the VAT treatment of the financial and insurance world. Peter also contributes the finance and insurance section to the British VAT Reporter, again published by CCH Editions Ltd, and is the author of the chapter on international services in Tolley's VAT Planning, published by Tolley Publishing Company Ltd. He is, in addition, a frequent contributor of articles on VAT to the commercial and professional Press
