Stewart Norman, FCA, ATII
Stewart joined Arthur Young in 1973 from Bristol University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with them in 1976. On qualification, he transferred to the corporate tax department of Arthur Young and dealt with a wide range of companies in a variety of industries in the UK and overseas.
He has been involved with a wide range of clients, from small privately-owned companies up to quoted multinationals. Stewart has considerable experience of acquisitions and disposals, of companies and of assets, and corporate restructuring and financing.
In addition to normal corporate tax issues, Stewart also has extensive experience of Petroleum Revenue Tax.
Stewart spent a year in industry in the tax department of BICC before returning to Arthur Young and has also worked on secondment to the tax department of a major multinational company for several months. Stewart is the Secretary of OTAC, which makes frequent representations on oil and gas taxation issues.
Apart from energy-related companies, Stewart has particular expertise in the insurance, banking, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries, which have involved detailed negotiations with specialist divisions of the Inland Revenue.
He regularly lectures on courses, in particular on oil and gas issues, and has contributed a number of articles for various tax publications. Stewart also updates the chapter “Group Aspects of Tax Planning” for the Tolley’s Tax Planning annual and also the Oil Taxation Section of the CCH Tax Reporter.
His hobbies include walking photography and fine wines.
