Peter is a senior consultant at CW Energy LLP and has been with CW Energy since 1991. He specialises in VAT and has worked on City and oil and gas matters for over 35 years.
He is a chartered accountant who joined Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co on qualifying in 1973 to become a corporate tax consultant. He left to join Arthur Young in 1985 after which he concentrated on indirect tax, especially VAT, although has been involved in VAT since its introduction in the UK in 1972.
Throughout his career Peter has advised a wide range of clients, both UK and international, and from many different sectors, but with a particular emphasis on the financial and oil and gas sectors.
Peter has been a member of the VAT Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales for many years, and also the Indirect Taxes Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Furthermore, he was a founder member of the VAT Practitioners Group.
On oil and gas matters, Peter has been a member of the Indirect Taxes subcommittee of UKOITC for over 20 years and was heavily involved in the production of the first “North Sea Memorandum” the joint Customs and Industry statement on the VAT treatment of North Sea activities. He has also contributed to the many amendments to this document that have been made over the years.
Peter is the author of the popular textbook VAT in the City, published by CCH Editions Ltd, which is now in its sixth edition. This is widely regarded as the major work of its kind in relation to the VAT treatment of the financial and insurance world, Peter also contributes the finance and insurance section of the British VAT Reporter, also published by CCG Editions Ltd. He is, in addition, a frequent contributor of articles on VAT to the commercial and professional Press.
